Artist's Comments

Well, since I havn't had time to actually paint in ages and ages, I've decdided to upload some old stuff just for the sake or doing... something. This was a cover illustration I did three years ago when I was in school, for Lord of the Flies.

It's pretty big departure from my usual work, and as I remember, it wasn't recived very well. The criticism being that t was kind of flat and monochromatic. Criticisms I quickly dismissed formyself because that's what I was going for. The other was that is was a pretty simplistic image, and I wasn't think latterally or anything. That one I will grant. Whatever though, I've always rather liked it so here it is.

The medium was ink and torn up paper, as per a lot of my stuff

Damn this is good!!

I love the form, details, and muted tones. Exquisite style. Grim and atmospheric imagery. It really does justice to the book. Excellent composition.

It's purely intuitive in its nature. I have always personally been drawn to more simplistic, striking images, and if there were any painting I wanted to be prominently displayed on the front of my book, it would be this one.

this was dismissed? Are you kidding me?!
Really great capture of the feeling of the sow's head. Like i told someone else, everyone who has done a serious peice of artwork on this subject has absorbed everything the book was about. Really well done.

I think it's a powerful image. I don't see how any other colors would fit into it; whoever criticized your work wasn't thinking. Haha. We just finished reading LOF in class, and I find this to be a wonderful rendition of the tone and feeling of the sow's head.

This picture fits the book very well... I like the way the picture interprets the mood of the book. great job, only thing I can find wrong with this is the color of the eyes... which should be black. But great picture nonetheless. XD

This is great! It's bleak, which I love, because it's the same feeling I got from reading Lord of the Flies.

Shame on all those who criticized this. Amazing work. <3

"Confidence is ignorance." said Foaly. "If you're confident, then there is probably something you don't know." Holly stayed quiet, for she had a sneaking suspicion Foaly was right.
